COX COMUNICATIONS SIGN
INSTALLATION
NORTH KINGSTOWN, RHODE ISLAND
This installation
was for a TKR24, 6” high
character flexible ticker capable
of broadcasting news feeds,
financial data with stock symbol
graphics, or sports news feeds.
There are more broadcasting
choices dependant upon what
the client requires.
This service is supplied by
a third party software protocol
company.
The ticker chassis dimensions
are 10.63” high X 3.5”deep.
The assembled weight is 9 lbs
per linear foot
The installation itself was supplied
in kit form requiring assembly
on site by a general contractor
or the services of Sunrise Systems.
In order to install the sign
a soffit was made out of wood
by a fabrication facility and
delivered to the site in four
quadrants, which were attached
together to make the required
circle necessary to mount the
chassis pieces to. The attachment
of the chassis to the soffit
was made using self-drilling
screws through the chassis into
the soffit. The power supplies
were then installed with self-drilling
screws to power the various components
of the sign, i.e. the LED cards,
and onboard computer system used
to transfer incoming RS232 data
to the LED cards. The supplies
are provided with Liquitite pigtails
allowing them to be connected
in series along the length of
the sign. Each power supply is
capable of driving six LED cards.
The maximum number of cards allowed
on a 20 AMP circuit is 72
Once the supplies are installed
the LED cards are installed into
grooves in a flexible neoprene
rubber extrusion that engages
fingers on the chassis sections
to hold it in place. Electrical
power and data is then plugged
into each LED card.
The final installation step
is to install the Plexiglas fascia
into the same rubber extrusion
as the cards.
This particular sign was 378” in
circumference, 10’ diameter
and hung by six ½” all
thread rods which were attached
to the ceiling structure and
passed through the soffit and
sign and secured by nuts on the
bottom of the soffit. A circular
tubing covering was slid onto
the all thread rods and nuts
to dress out the sign. |
