Selecting a Sign |
| |
| With so many options, selecting the right lighting products to display your messages, ideas or advertisements can be difficult. That's why Sunrise Systems has developed a simple process to help you choose the right LED sign for your needs, including how to select the right LED color, sign length and software.
Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions you might have.
|
| |
A few general reminders:
|
| |
- As a rule of thumb, 1 inch of image height translates into 30 feet of viewing distance.
- An image’s overall height determines its minimum viewing distance. For example, it’s easier to see larger characters from a distance than close-up.
- As viewing distance increases, the amount of resolution needed to achieve clear and concise visibility decreases.
- LED light colors play a crucial role when choosing the installation spot for your sign.
- Because of the high contrast, any color works well in interior and shaded areas.
- Red is the best color for signs facing full sun exposure, followed by amber and green. Avoid white and blues in full sun areas. For installation where full sun exposure is unavoidable, use a dark matte background chassis color for maximum contrast.

| |
Does your application call for a transparent display panel? |
- Will the sign reside between a viewing window and the object on display?
- Is there a background area that needs to be visible behind the sign installation?
- Does the installation need to preserve the look and feel of your installation site (such as the fascia of your building)?
|
| |
| If you answered "yes" to any of the above questions, then you need to consider
Sunrise's transparent sign product lines. These lines include Curtain Wall (CW) and Icicle (ICL) signs.
If transparency isn't a requirement, our traditional panel LED displays should suit your needs.
|
| |
What kind of image data does your sign need to display? |
| |
- Will the sign only display moving data? (stock quotes, news, text, etc)?
- Take a look at "Ticker" signs, the industry standard name for moving LED signs. Choose from Sunrise's line of EXL and TKR Series signs.
- Does your sign need to display more than one color to convey its message?
- Opt for either a tri-color or full color display, such as the Curtain Wall, EXL, LCN Series Signs.
- Does the sign need to display video?
- IOur full color product line is available with a video front end. Please click the Engineering link under Resources for more information.
- Will you use existing background or ambient light to help display a message?
- A changing color panel may be best for your application, especially if your sign will be used in either ambient, floor, general exterior, or general interior lighting applications. Please see the Engineering link under Resources for more information on changing color panels.
Software Information
- If you need a sign to display the same, static message (such as "Open," "Closed," etc.), a simple fixed state sign will best fit your application.
- 6 If your sign must change its message, then you'll need a dynamic message sign. These signs have refresh controllers and are software driven.
- Many of our clients use Windows-based software as a standard programming interface for dynamic sign text, included with the sign. Some of our signs can also be configured to accept a third party software feed from various vendors. Please see Software for more information.
