Founded in Boston as the world’s first LED sign company, Sunrise Systems was born from a unique intersection of neurological research and engineering excellence. What began as a neurological exploration alongside Boston University led to the development of the Continuous Performance Tester—the first tool used to diagnose PTSD in soldiers returning from the Vietnam War.

Over the last 50 years, we have built a legacy of industry firsts:

1977

Engineered the first microprocessor-controlled display. 

1982

Installed the first multicolor LED display at Harvard University.

1990s

Expanded into the commercial LED ticker market, creating landmark installations for premier institutions and global art projects, including award-winning pieces at the Venice Biennale.

2000s

Evolved to provide vital interior bus and train platform signage for municipalities and airports worldwide.

2020

Acquired SES America, Inc., diversifying our portfolio into complete infrastructure ecosystems, including public announcement systems and control cabinet equipment.
